Anchor Lutheran School (Anchor) is located on Arctic Boulevard near Dimond Boulevard in Anchorage, Alaska. Anchor was founded in 1979 by the Lutheran School Association of Anchorage (LSSA) as a non-profit, independent school with the support of associated churches, Zion Lutheran Church and Anchorage Lutheran Church. In 1985, the Lutheran Center was completed and classes moved from the associated churches to the current location on Arctic Boulevard. Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, the Congregation that shares the Lutheran Center with Anchor, was added as an associated church. LSSA remains a non-profit (501 C-3) organization located in Anchorage, Alaska, operated by an appointed Board of Directors. Approximately240 students from over 20 Christian denominations and seven countries attend Anchor, in pre-school through Grade 12 (ages 3-18). Anchor School is recognized by the Department of Homeland Security as an international school, authorized to issue Form I-20 for F-1 student visas through SEVIS.The school year is comprised of 180 days with the school day beginning at 8:45 am and ending at 3:30 pm. There are robust after-school activities and sports programs available for students to choose from.
Anchor has a full, 6-year term of accreditation with National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA). Anchor graduates have been accepted and enrolled in top universities worldwide and currently contribute to our communities through employment as doctors, engineers, teachers, contractors, and more.
Anchor has a dedicated and talented group of educators on its campus. They are a diverse team comprised from all over the United States, the majority coming from Alaska. Over 70% of the faculty carry postgraduate degrees in education.
