Welcome to Anchor Lutheran School
Dear Anchor Community and Visitors,
On behalf of Anchor Lutheran School (Anchor), I welcome you to our school website. Our intent is to maintain webpages and links that reflect the unique teaching and learning experiences at Anchor. While we have done our best to share our learning environment with you, Anchor is best experienced in person. Current and prospective Anchor parents are most welcome on our campus, where there are daily events and activities to take part in (including just relaxing and casually observing student-community life).
As an accredited Lutheran school, we provide a rigorous, high-caliber academic program for all ages of students. Anchor has a highly reputed academic program for Early Childhood through High School, which includes delivering programs in the Arts, Design, STEAM, Athletics, Leadership, and Chinese Languages. Recognized by the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA), you can be assured of the 'portability' and acceptance of your child’s achievements at Anchor. Anchor students continue to score well above peer norms on NWEA, MAP, PSAT, and SAT standardized test measures while still having a “complete” learning experience within a rich and comprehensive extracurricular program.
Classroom learning is fully “wired” at Anchor. With a commitment to a 1-to-1 device initiative in Grades K-12, students use MacBooks and iPads as one of their required educational resources and the entire campus provides wireless access for the Anchor community. Over the years, Anchor has steadily augmented and upgraded its facilities and resources to match the growing needs of the community.
Anchor competes successfully in regional sporting events and leagues, including athletic exchange in volleyball, soccer, basketball, and track and field. Anchor also provides Anchorage with outstanding theater productions and choral performances. A hallmark of Anchor has been our commitment to high standards of academic excellence as recognized by the National Lutheran School Accreditation (NLSA). Anchor fully commits to the process of school-wide self-study and external evaluation of our ongoing school improvement processes. The latest NLSA accreditation letter recognizes ‘stellar’ aspects of our school and congratulates Anchor for the high quality of instruction offered. We are very proud of our educational program and the commitment of our entire community in creating such a supportive learning environment.
A focus on curriculum and instruction as well as quality facilities and resources are, indeed, attributes of a good school. However, truly great educational institutions focus their efforts, time, and energy on our most treasured resource -- people. It is the people that make Anchor Lutheran School outstanding. Students, teachers, and parents are welcome here, knowing that their voices are heard and matter. Anchor is truly a unique, inclusive, international Christian school in Anchorage, Alaska.
Again, welcome to Anchor.
