Student Support Services
At Anchor, we believe all children deserve an excellent education. We are committed to providing an inclusive Christian learning experience for students with learning or sensory differences on an individualized basis. Student Support Services has some delightful surprises and updates for you this school year. Under the leadership of our Student Support Coordinator, Sandi Goerisch, we are expanding our program to meet the needs of all learners. Our Coordinator works closely with students, teachers, and parents to clarify what support students may need in order to achieve their full potential. At times, support might mean finding ways to incorporate strategies in the classroom that will benefit all students. Occasionally, a group of students might need a mini-lesson on “how to convert fractions” using a scaffolded approach, or a small group might work on developing reading fluency by attending to pace and expression.
Student Support Services works with Lower School students in all academic areas and coordinates additional services for meaningful cohesion. In the Upper School, Student Support Services consults with faculty members, provides direct support for students in the classroom, and offers after-school tutoring.
Teachers and parents can refer students to the Student Support Services program at Anchor. Our aim is to provide an inclusive environment where children flourish academically, spiritually, socially, and emotionally. When internal and/or external assessments have been completed, the team makes decisions about next steps. If formal learning support services are indicated, those services will be documented in an Individualized Learning Plan (ILP). Fees for Student Support Services are assessed according to the level of support provided.
Counseling
Our school Counseling and Wellness Program promotes personal, interpersonal, spiritual, emotional, and academic development for all students through large and small group instruction and individual services. Our program is focused on being proactive and preventative. Students participate in lessons about transition issues, citizenship, personal health and safety, conflict resolution, and life beyond school. We also provide parenting education. Our Student Support Coordinator works in partnership with Faculty, Pastors, and Administration to ensure appropriate academic, behavioral, spiritual, and social support is available for all students.
University and Career Planning
Post-Secondary Education counseling is provided to all Upper School students with increasing levels of intensity. It is provided jointly by our Student Support Coordinator and Administrator. Our students receive guidance and assistance with all aspects of the university and career planning and selection process, admissions and testing requirements, and college and career exploration activities.
